FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfields calendar has something for everyone this week, whether youre looking for a heady government discussion, a light-hearted fundraiser or a competition featuring some of the towns brightest students. Heres a sampling of events going on in Fairfield this week:
Monday, April 9
2 p.m.: Yale professor Mark Schenkers Talking about Books series at the Fairfield Public Library switches to movies for the month of April. The first film, the Hitchcock thriller Notorious, screens Monday. Discussion follows on Thursday night. The screening is in the Rotary Room of the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road.
Tuesday, April 10
5 to 8 p.m.: Moms Making a Difference, a group of Fairfield mothers raising money for the American Cancer Society, will take over as wait staff of the Colony Grill, 1520 Post Road. All tips the ladies receive will go toward their team in the Relay for Life event at Fairfield Ludlowe High School in June.
6 p.m.: The Connecticut Department of Transportation will host a workshop in Fairfield to discuss the proposed walking and biking trail along the Merritt Parkway. Leaders from the state agency will listen to residents concerns in the All-Purpose Room of Osborn Hill Elementary School, 760 Stillson Road.
6 to 8 p.m.: Fairfields Registrars of Voters will be in their office late for a special voter registration session in advance of the upcoming presidential primary. The registrars office is located on the first floor of Old Town Hall, 611 Old Post Road.
7 p.m.: The Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting in the second-floor conference room of the Fairfield Public School headquarters, 501 Kings Highway East. The meeting agenda is available at the boards website.
7 p.m.: Local clothing designer Jennifer Butler will show off her spring collection in her 2012 Runway Benefit Fashion Show at the Delamar Hotel in Southport, 275 Old Post Road. Tickets are $60, and all proceeds benefit the Fairfield Public Library.
7:30 p.m.: The Town Plan and Zoning Commission will hold its bimonthly meeting in the cafeteria of McKinley Elementary School, 60 Thompson St. The meeting agenda is available at the town website.
Wednesday, April 11
4:30 p.m.: The Police Commission will hold its monthly meeting at the Fairfield Police headquarters, 100 Reef Road.
7 p.m.: Fifth-graders from all of Fairfields public and private schools will face off in the 31st annual Town-Wide Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Junior League of Fairfield. The competition takes place in the auditorium of Roger Ludlowe Middle School, 689 Unquowa Road.
Thursday, April 12
11 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Fairfield Universitys Thomas A. Walsh Gallery opens a new exhibit, Immortality of the Spirit. The collection features ancient Chinese burial vessels. The gallery, on the university campus at 1073 N. Benson Road, offers free admission to all.
7 p.m.: The Fire Commission will hold its monthly meeting in the first-floor conference room of Sullivan Independence Hall, 725 Old Post Road. The meeting agenda is available at the town website.
7 p.m.: Sue West, author of "Organize for a Fresh Start: Embrace Your Next Chapter in Life, will discuss her book at the Fairfield Public Library. The event is free at the Main Librarys Memorial Room, 1080 Old Post Road.
