Toss Out Old Files and Reel in Fish in Fairfield

Fairfield’s cops will be extra busy this weekend. Aside from their regular duties, the Fairfield Police Department will host two events Saturday: one to help Fairfielders avoid identity theft and another to kick off fishing season.

Police Explorers Post 279 will start the weekend with its semi-annual “Shred Day.” For $10 a box, Secure Eco-Shred will safely destroy and recycle your personal documents. All proceeds benefit the Explorers, local high school and college-age students with an interest in law enforcement. The money will go toward their year-long programs with the Police Department and their trip to the annual Explorer Academy this summer.

Meanwhile, the Police Activities League will get back into action Saturday with its annual Trout Fishing Derby at Gould Manor Park. Boys and girls ages 3 to 15 can compete for prizes in categories ranging from first catch to biggest haul. The derby is free to enter, but contestants must bring their own equipment. A limited amount of bait will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Shred Day will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the lot behind Fairfield Fire Department Headquarters on Nichols Avenue. Registration for the Trout Derby begins at 7 a.m., and the contest will run from 9 to 11 a.m. at Gould Manor Pond on Holland Hill Road. For more information, contact the Fairfield Police at (203) 254-4808.
