FAIRFIELD, Conn. Rose Marie Pia of Fairfield died May 27 following a sudden illness. She was 90.
The daughter of Italian immigrants, Peter and Marie Vitti, she was born in New Canaan. She married Anthony J. Pia of Stamford and traveled to assist him with events in present-day Myanmar, where he was cultural affairs officer for the U.S. Information Agency.
Pia was known to family for her gourmet cooking and baking. In her early years, she was active in local and state politics, raising money for the Sisters of Notre Dame at Fairfield University.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony; two sons, Richard (Ann) Pia, of Fayetteville, N.C., and Brian (Andrea) Pia, of Birmingham, Ala.; a daughter, Lynn (Jeff), of Fairfield; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday directly at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Fairfield. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Fairfield. Visitation hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Spear-Miller Funeral Home in Fairfield.
In lieu flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
