Need Something To Do Over the Holiday Break?

Now that the snow is (mostly) cleared, you're probably anxious to get the kids out of the house. Here's a rundown of fun activities around Fairfield during the rest of the holiday break:

? The Fairfield Museum and History Center has a whole slate of kid-friendly events planned before closing for New Year's Day. On Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m., it is holding "Cookie Pops," where kids can make their own treats with wafers, icing and edible decorations.

All day Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., train collector Harvey Campbell will demonstrate his model steam train as part of its Holiday Train Show. And starting at 2 p.m. Wednesday is the Holiday Scavenger Hunt, in which kids can explore the exhibit for a chance to win fun prizes.

Finally, Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. is "Starflakes," where kids can craft their own wintry decorations.

? The Pequot Library in Southport will be closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the holiday, but before the break, it has have a fun event planned for older kids. On Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., Pequot is hosting a "Free Rice" gathering. Teens and tweens can stop by to play the educational Internet game that also generates donations for the United Nations World Food Program. Pizza and snacks will be served.

? The Main Library and Fairfield Woods Branch will also close Friday and Saturday, but it has great events planned for the week as well. On Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m., artist Michael Albert will lead a Collage Workshop for kids ages 6 to 12 at the Main Library on the Post Road.

On Wednesday, author Ryan Santangelo will stop by the Fairfield Woods Branch at 2 p.m. to sing songs and talk about his book, "Spaghetti Eddie." And every day at 2 p.m. the downUnder teen center at the Fairfield Woods Branch will host a movie and pizza party for teens.

And while you're at the library, you might want to pick up a Museum Pass. Residents with a library card can pick up free or discounted passes to 27 museums across Connecticut, including the Barnum Museum in Bridgeport, the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk and the Peabody Museum in New Haven. Stop by either the Adult or Children's Reference Desk at the Main Library for information.
