To the Editor:
I would like to congratulate all six candidates who ran for state representative. As one who ran for this office at one time, I know it is a grueling experience. Each district is large and requires a dedication of time of days and nights for weeks on end. The challengers, who all were in the minority party in their district, had the even more difficult task of convincing voters to unseat an incumbent. Hence, it is not uncommon for those candidates, in varying degrees, to be more aggressive against their opponent.
Such was the case in our three races. No one, including the incumbents, should take offense at that. That is the political process, it is meant to be adversarial. The challengers should be congratulated for making our races meaningful. I congratulate the incumbents on their victories. Now it is over, and the state reps should be allowed to do their work in Hartford for the betterment of our town.
Ellery Plotkin
Chair, Fairfield Democratic Town Committee
