Joseph Kielbus, 87, Fairfield WWII Veteran

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Joseph C. Kielbus of Fairfield died May 7. He was 87. 

Born April 30, 1925, and raised in Yonkers, N.Y., he was the son of Andrew and Julia Lepufska Kielbus. A Fairfield resident for most of his life, Kielbus was an Army veteran of World War II. He later worked for the Bridgeport Metal Goods Co. before retiring from W.S. Rockwell Co. 

Kielbus was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, where he was an usher. A gifted artist, he liked drawing caricatures and cartoons. He also enjoyed gardening and caring for his home. 

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Papp Kielbus; a son, Christopher Kielbus of Naugatuck; a sister, Helen Bansak of Fairfield; and four sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by three brothers, Frank, Casmir and Benjamin Kielbus; and two sisters, Stephanie Kosar and Mary Krivak. 

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lesko and Polke Funeral Home in Fairfield Center. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday directly at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Fairfield. Burial with full military honors will follow at Lawncroft Cemetery.
