Grab Free Frozen Treats in Fairfield This Weekend

Now that warm weather is finally here, what could be better than a sweet frozen snack? How about a free one? Fairfield’s Tasti D-Lite is celebrating its grand opening (six months after its real opening) with free samples Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Fairfield siblings Clara and Jack stopped by just as the free samples were being offered. “It’s good,” Jack said.

Tasti D-Lite’s treats are made from skim milk, so they’re technically neither ice cream nor frozen yogurt. But they are lower in fat and calories than both. Fairfield’s franchise, located in the Staples Plaza at 1201 Kings Highway, opened in November. But general manager Alan Kline said the store put off its grand opening celebration until now, waiting until spring finally arrived.

“Business has been good so far,” Kline said. “Especially on nights and weekends we get a good turnout.”

The store is offering free small cups Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. On Saturday, they’ll also have free massages for parents and door prizes every half hour from area stores such as Minette and Rook and from the Bridgeport Bluefish. A share of the profits from this weekend go to Fairfield’s homeless assistance program, Operation Hope.

Also on Saturday, the even newer business next door, Fairfield Pizza, will be celebrating its own grand opening. The pizzeria, which opened Tuesday, will offer free slices on Saturday afternoon. “Pizza, ice cream and massages — is there a better combo?” said Kline.
