FAIRFIELD, Conn. Frank J. Solotruk Sr. of Fairfield died April 23. He was 86.
Solotruk moved with his family to Fairfield 26 years ago from Bridgeport. He retired as an industrial engineer for Sikorsky Aircraft.
He was born April 21, 1926, in Bridgeport, to John and Mary Wargo Solotruk. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Victory, Good Conduct and EAME Campaign medals. An engineering graduate of the University of Bridgeport, Solotruk worked for Dictaphone Corp. early in his career before joining Sikorsky Aircraft.
He was an active member of Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church, and in more recent years, Assumption Church in Fairfield. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War posts in Fairfield, as well as the Plavec Society. A dedicated volunteer and past chairperson for Quaezar Inc., Solotruk was an advocate for the support of individuals with autism and their families.
Solotruk is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joyce Hornyak Solotruk; a son, Frank Solotruk of Colchester, Conn.; two daughters, Donna (Scott) Burns of Seymour, Conn., and Jessica (Frank) Machinello of Bridgeport; a sister, Irene Mastrogeorgeo of New York; a grandson and a niece. He was predeceased by a brother, John.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Assumption Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Stratford. Arrangements are in care of Lesko and Polke Funeral Home in Fairfield Center.
