The following letters were sent to The Daily Fairfield regarding the Board of Finances decision to order an audit of the Fairfield Metro Center project.
The Editor:
Yeah, yeah, yeah. They want more money for Fairdale's white elephant, the Fairfield Metro Center. High tide comes twice a day too if anybody is watching.
Now the venerable political-above-it-alls on the borrow-tax-and-spend Fairfield Board of Finance are coming to the rescue with a $20,000 retrospective audit. Talk about the fire department hanging out across the street while the building burns to the ground and then walking over to check out if the chimney is still standing.
Why am I not shocked? Move along, there is nothing new to see here.

As a former spokesman for a local city council, I will say it is fantastic that they are moving forward and reviewing the budget costs. I will say this though, on the record: All of this could have been resolved through proper public management, which it seems is lacking in this case. There should be a single point man for it, and if that is the First Selectmen and you give him statutory power, great.
First off, the state has not adequately resolved the graffiti or the ticket refund and station window issues. Customer service will suffer unless someone takes the lead. Next they went with the default name, which was silly. I don't believe the state wanted to take a local risk. Finally there are these cost overruns, which you and I both know in government usually means the problem will be kicked down the road. Lastly, even though there will be an outsourced company [that] I am told ... will provide on the ground management, that doesn't mean they have any authority at all. They are just the parking garage people.
Unless we have leadership, the taxpayer will once again get hammered. We need someone to keep Fairfield Countys first new train station on the tracks, and the solution will not come from politics.
