Fairfielders Deal With Winters' First Snow

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Shawn Bay and Bob Stearns were all set to take their boys in Scout Troop 90 on a camping trip to Killingworth this weekend. But Mother Nature intervened. A few inches of Fairfield County’s first major snow of 2012 were already on the ground by the time the two families woke up Saturday. So Stearns and Bay went with Plan B: sledding in Fairifeld’s Sturges Park.

Saturday’s forecast calls for up to six inches of snow to fall in the Fairfield area, with the storm letting up by early evening. But don’t expect the white stuff to stick around too long. Temperatures are predicted to rise to 50 degrees by Tuesday, much to Stearns’ relief.

“If we get snow today, and it’s 50 degrees by Monday, I’m fine with that,” Stearns said.

But not everyone was happy to see snow falling in Fairfield. As he shoveled snow in front of shops along the Post Road, Michael Parks was one of many wishing he wasn’t in New England Saturday.

“I’m a sandy beach and palm tree kind of guy,” Parks said. “I’ve got no use for snow except on a postcard from somewhere else.”
