FAIRFIELD, Conn. The Fairfield Senior Center branched out to an unlikely arena: Facebook. Though not many would associate the social media site with the senior centers patrons, the organization became one of the first of its kind to launch a Facebook page last week.
When my mother was in her 80s, she decided that in order to keep up communication with her younger grandchildren, she would learn how to use email, Margaret Andrews, program coordinator for the senior center, said in a statement. She did, and it opened up a whole new way for her to communicate. Many seniors are perfectly able to learn email and Facebook with just a little help.
The senior center will use its Facebook page as another part of its website. It will announce events on the page and publicize some of the services they provide. And if any seniors need help getting started with email or Facebook, the center offers one-on-one classes for Fairfielders. To arrange an appointment, call 203-256-3166.
We havent ventured into Twitter just yet, said Claire Grace, Fairfields human services director. But the future will include blast emails, and may include a Blog, downloadable lectures, web based programs and who knows, maybe someday well have an iPad App.
