FAIRFIELD, Conn. Two Fairfield residents are taking another trip along the East Coast to help wounded veterans.
Scott Nickel and Jocelyn Eppich will participate in the Ride 2 Recovery Minuteman Challenge next month, but they need your help to get there.
The Minuteman Challenge is a five-day ride around New England, starting in Boston and looping around to West Point, N.Y. The trip is a fundraiser for Ride 2 Recovery, which sponsors cycling programs to help rehabilitate wounded veterans.
Nickel and Eppich took a similar ride for the organization last year, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. On this trip, Nickel will have a constant reminder of the people he has set out to help. On the back of his tandem bicycle will be a veteran who lost sight in both his eyes after suffering a head wound in battle.
He would not be able to participate in this ride without Scott as the captain, Eppich wrote in a letter asking for donations. Many other veterans we will be riding with have traumatic injuries.
Nickel and Eppich hope to raise more than $3,000 each for Ride 2 Recovery. To make a donation, visit the organizations donation page and enter either Scott Nickel or Jocelyn Eppich. You also can send donations by check to Ride 2 Recovery, 23679 Calabasas Road #420, Calabasas, CA 91302. To ensure the donation sponsors their team, write either Nickel's or Eppichs name on the memo line.
