Fairfield Police Bring Fun to the Beach

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The Fairfield Police Activities League has two contests this weekend to wrap up the summer. Both events take place along Fairfield’s shores, and all of the town’s kids are invited to participate.

The first event is the Snapper Blues Fishing Derby, which starts at 2 p.m. Saturday. Boys and girls ages 4 to 15 can sign up to compete for prizes in categories such as "first snapper blue caught" and "largest fish other than a snapper blue." Registration starts at 1 p.m. at the South Benson Marina. Contestants must have equipment but Jimmy’s Bait and Tackle will provide a limited amount of bait.

Next is the sand sculpture contest, which takes place Sunday morning at Penfield Beach. Kids under 18 can attempt to build the most creative designs. The contest runs from 10:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Sunday. For more information on Police Activities League events, call Officer Scott Sudora at 203-254-4808.
