Fairfield Police Become More Web-Savvy

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Do you need to pay a parking ticket but don’t feel like going to Fairfield police headquarters? Do you need to file a report for an accident that happened a few days ago? Or do you just want to learn more about Fairfield’s cops? Now you can do all that from your home computer.

The Fairfield Police Department launched a new website that will allow Fairfield residents to handle more business online than before. The site, designed with the help of Public Affairs Sgt. Suzanne Lussier and neighborhood watch leader Joan Keane, went live earlier this week.

Through the new website, Fairfielders can pay their parking tickets directly online through PayPal. Users can make donations to the K-9 program or DARE through PayPal.

The site also lets residents access forms and reports without heading to the police department’s Reef Road headquarters. Two popular forms are already online: the Statement of Loss form (used to report stolen items after a burglary) and the Motor Vehicle Accident Report (for creating police reports for an accident not investigated by police). The accident report database will also be online soon, which will let drivers download forms that can be sent straight to insurance companies.

The new website is also a source of information about all of the police department’s activities. Each division of the police force has a page with photos and background info. Lussier will use the front page to broadcast information about missing people and suspects, including a page of Fairfield’s “Most Wanted” suspects.

Chief Gary MacNamara says he will use his new page to begin “Chief’s Beat,” his periodic blog on his department. “Like any website, this is a work in progress. Our web presence will continue to grow,” MacNamara wrote in his first (and currently only) entry.
