Fairfield Museum Seeks Entries For Photography Exhibit

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield Museum and History Center is accepting submissions for its IMAGES 2013 exhibition through Friday.

IMAGES 2013 is the museum’s annual juried art exhibition featuring the work of photographers from around the Fairfield area and beyond. A group of local judges will select winners in two divisions: Professional/Serious Amateur and Student.

The award for the Professional/Serious Amateur winner is a 10-day exhibition at Southport Galleries. The Student Grand Prize winner will receive a professional portfolio review with one of the judges. Winners will also be picked in five categories: Landscape, Portrait, Nature, Abstract and Architecture.

This year’s judges are WestConn photography professor Bruce Dunbar, Sacred Heart lecturer Mark Edwards, Bellarmine Museum of Art curator Jill Deupi, Fairfield photographer Thomas Mezzanotte and Fairfield University associate professor Mark Scalese.

The exhibit will also feature a solo display by photographer Philip Trager. A Connecticut native, Trager’s past work includes photographs of distinctive architecture from all of the state’s 169 towns. He also worked on a series that photographed dancers in natural light in outdoor venues around the state, including the Fairfield University campus and Sherwood Island State Park in Westport.

“We feel extremely privileged that Philip Trager is going to be our signature photographer for IMAGES 2013,” said Mike Jehle, executive director of the Fairfield Museum and History Center. “Philip is internationally renowned for his brilliant work and he will be loaning the Museum several works that have never before been on exhibition.”

Submissions for the juried competition are due Friday, April 5. Those interested can enter their work at the Fairfield Museum and History Center website.
