Fairfield Man Continues a Lifetime of Philanthropy

It's a wonder Guy Hatfield has time for a regular job with his heavy involvement in charitable and philanthropic activities. And yet he and his brother are busy running the Fairfield insurance agency that bears their family name started 105 years ago by their grandfather. Over the years, the agency has funded the Hatfield Insurance Community Fund, which gives out $30,000 a year in grants and scholarships. "We believe in giving back to the community," says Hatfield.

He gives more than money, however. Hatfield commits a great deal of time to serving on the boards of many civic groups, including the Rotary chapter in Fairfield, where he was past president, and the Discovery Museum in Bridgeport.

Currently, he's involved with Near & Far Aid, a group dedicated to ending poverty in Fairfield County. One of its major fundraisers, the Celebrating the Art of Living designer house tour, is set for Friday, April 29. Hatfield has been working with the group for eight years, and the insurance company is a major sponsor. The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., annually draws more than 1,000 visitors for an inside look at five extraordinary homes in the prominent enclaves of Westport, Greenfield Hill and Southport, each professionally decorated by prominent interior designers.

"Near & Far is a great organization," says Hatfield. "It's a group of volunteers who raise over a million dollars a year for their cause." As one who has been involved with dozens of them, Hatfield knows a worthwhile cause when he sees it.

Information on the house tour, including tickets, is available at the Near & Far website.
