Fairfield Letters Question Hwang's Absence

Deborah Blanchard and Jay Wolk are both residents of Fairfield. Both submitted letters to the editor this week regarding state Rep. Tony Hwang, who represents parts of Fairfield and Trumbull in Connecticut’s House of Representatives.

Dear Editor:

Tony Hwang let the residents of Fairfield and Trumbull down last week when he chose to take leave of the legislature’s budget work to go “out of town on family business,” a statement he submitted for the public record on why he did not bother show up for Connecticut’s Appropriations Committee budget votes. The most important work our legislators do is to discuss and craft a state budget that determines what programs get cut and when our taxes are increased. There is one chance a year for our legislators to use their vote and voice in committee to stand up for us, and Tony was a no show. If you live in Rep. Hwang’s district, you should be sure to ask where he was when he had the chance to fight to keep your taxes in check.

Dear Editor:

Have you seen Tony Hwang lately? You might have seen him around town, but he was nowhere to be seen in the state Capitol recently when our legislators were discussing and voting on your state budget. We elect our representative to work for us in Hartford, to assure that our interests are represented and now more than ever we needed Rep. Hwang to take some time away from photo ops and vacations to help vote to address the budget challenges our state faces. No-show Tony was no help to local taxpayers this year.

Sincerely,

Jay Wolk
