Fairfield Kids Squeeze Funds for Charity

Isabelle Burdo, Carly Sappern, Katherine Luttmann and Sydney Nelson brought out a time-honored suburban tradition last weekend — the lemonade stand. But the Fairfield sixth-graders weren’t selling sugary drinks for their own benefit. Their makeshift business along Fairfield Beach Road was aimed at helping kids in Bridgeport discover a new sport.

The girls said their profits would go to Bridgeport Youth Tennis, a nonprofit group that builds support for the sport in Connecticut’s largest city. The entrepreneurs were inspired by Katherine’s mother, who works for the United States Tennis Association, a sponsor of Bridgeport Youth Tennis. The girls say they’ll be out throughout the summer to help to raise money for the cause.
