“Transforming the Burr and providing the community the opportunity to view and purchase art for their homes is a tremendous but worthwhile undertaking,” league President Melanie Verrengia said in a statement.
The Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County includes women from Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Newtown, Redding, Shelton, Southport, Stratford, Trumbull, Weston and Westport. It is dedicated to promoting volunteer programs across its coverage area. The organization also hands out mini-grants to local nonprofits.
The money raised at the annual event will go to benefit the organization’s volunteer programs. Projects include reading to students at Bridgeport’s Thomas Hooker School and South End YMCA as well as “Cook and Feed for Friends in Need,” which brings food to Operation Hope and the Black Rock Food Pantry.
The art show will feature paintings, photographs and sculptures from more than 100 artists across Connecticut and New England. The exhibit will also display the work of elementary school students from Bridgeport’s Thomas Hooker School, one of the beneficiaries of Junior League programs. The Burr Mansion’s mantle pieces have also been decorated for the event by local interior designers.
On Saturday and Sunday, the event will feature a boutique and café behind the mansion. Local stores will set up pop-up shops and sell jewelry, clothing, accessories, home goods and more. Artist Anda Styler will also host an instructional demonstration at the event Sunday from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
The weekend starts with a preview gala, themed “Art of the Masquerade,” featuring a dinner, a live band and a silent auction. Gala attendees will also get a preview tour of the exhibits and the first chance to purchase the artworks on display. Tickets for the event are $115 per person through the organization’s website.
“As our primary fundraiser, its success is key to the impact we can have in the community,” Verrengia said. “Every purchase, large or small, helps support our community projects, as well as the exhibiting artists.”
The Junior League of Eastern Fairfield Country’s annual art show takes place March 22 to 24 at the Burr Homestead, 739 Old Post Road, Fairfield.
