Fairfield Fundraiser Doles Out Record Donation

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A Fairfield charity event made a record donation to St. Vincent’s Special Needs Services this week. The Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival raised an event-best $375,900 for the local medical center last December.

“Our 30th anniversary Festival was a huge success and this is the most money we have ever raised for a local nonprofit,” Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival president and board member Carol Wheeler said in a press release. “We are proud to be able to present this check to St. Vincent’s Special Needs Services.”

The Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival is an annual charity event at Fairfield’s Burr Homestead. The Old Post Road mansion’s rooms are decorated for the holiday season, and families are invited to view the decorations and enjoy other holiday entertainment by making a donation to a local non-profit.

The charity event was founded in 1981, and that year raised $12,500. Since then the festival has raised more than $3 million for 90 local nonprofit groups.

The 2011 Festival’s recipient was St. Vincent’s Special Needs Services. The division of Bridgeport’s St. Vincent’s Hospital helps those born with developmental disabilities throughout their lives.

“This check will go towards our goal of building a state-of-the-art therapeutic pool at our Trumbull location,” said Raymond G. Baldwin, CEO and president of St. Vincent Special Needs Services. “The children and adults with disabilities who attend our programs each year will benefit greatly from the aquatic therapy the pool will enable us to offer."
