March 20 is Fresh Air Fund Day in the states where the organization operates. To celebrate the occasion the group’s volunteer leaders in Fairfield County will host events with free frozen treats at local businesses. There host families will talk about their experiences in the program to encourage others to join.

The Fresh Air Fund runs a program that connects low-income kids from New York City with families in suburban and rural areas in 13 states. The children head to their host families’ homes for portions of their summer to get an experience in the open spaces near their new homes. Each year more than 4,000 kids participate in the program.

Fairfield’s event will be at 16 Handles, 1300 Post Road, starting at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. Weston’s group will meet at the Lunch Box, 190 Weston Road, also starting at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. Redding’s event is Friday starting at 7 p.m. at Redding Ridge Market & Deli, 119 Black Rock Turnpike. All events are free to attend.
