Fairfield-Area Educational Program Seeks Tutors

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield’s County’s Mercy Learning Center is looking for new tutors to help with its programs.

Mercy Learning Center, in Bridgeport, operates educational programs for women in the area. Its programs include basic literacy, English as a second language, high school equivalency and basic life skills. About 600 women each year participate in the center’s classes.

The majority of Mercy Learning Center’s staff members are volunteers. The organization is looking to replenish its volunteer base with new tutors. Those who volunteer would meet with their charges two days a week at the Bridgeport school.

Tutors must be at least 18 but previous experience is not required. Mercy Learning Center will have one-day training sessions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 28, Sept. 12 and Sept. 25; lunch will be provided. For more information about becoming a volunteer tutor or to register for a training session, please contact Sue McNeil at 203-334-6699 or susan.mcneil@mercylearningcenter.org.
