The lecture will be presented by Patrick Mahoney, Ph.D. candidate at Drew University.
Drawing from his forthcoming book with co-author Neil Hogan, Mahoney's lecture will focus on the stories of men and women with Connecticut connections who were involved in Ireland’s struggle for independence.
The stories will range from local American Civil War veterans who traversed the Atlantic in hopes of bringing about independence as members of the Fenian Brotherhood in 1867, to a Hartford police detective who suddenly abandoned his post and returned to Ireland in 1922, whereupon he quickly became caught up in the politics of the Irish Civil War, according to a release from the the Gaelic-American Club.
Tickets are $5 or $2 with student ID. Those planning to attend are encouraged to register in advance to help the club plan seating and refreshments.
