FAIRFIELD, Conn. The 2010-11 school year officially ends Thursday for Fairfield Public Schools, which means parents need to find ways to fill their kids days. A number of local organizations and businesses have you covered. Heres a collection of just a few of the summer day camps with spots still open for registration:
? The Fairfield Museum and History Center will introduce its first full-season summer camp this year, based at the historic Ogden House. Kids will learn about early life in Fairfield through crafts, games, gardening and cooking. The camp starts June 27, but spots are still open.
The museum also has an array of mini-camps lasting from single days to full weeks. Courses range from a photography session tying in with the IMAGES exhibit to History Myths, where kids can find out the real facts behind the past. Find a full list and registration information at the Fairfield Museums website.
? The Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department offers a range of camps, including golf lessons at H. Smith Richardson Golf Course, babysitting lessons for enterprising teens and filmmaking camps for future moviemakers. Check the town website for a list of programs and registration forms.
? For nature lovers, the Connecticut Audubon Society is hosting camps at its Center at Fairfield on Burr Street and the Birdcraft Museum on Unquowa Road. The smaller Birdcraft Museums program is geared toward preschoolers, while the larger Burr Street center takes kids up to sixth grade. Both let kids explore the wildlife around the sanctuaries and participate in games and crafts.
? Sportsplex Fairfield has its own 10-week camp, using all of the huge complexs facilities, including the Fairfield Ice Academy, the Field House, the Gymnastics and Cheerleading Academy of Connecticut and Carbiners Indoor Rock Climbing. Plus, the ice rink, the gymnastics center and the indoor soccer and lacrosse field have its own individual camps throughout the season.
