The facility at 3685 Black Rock Turnpike officially opened on June 29, with over 1,800 adults attending that day.
The planning to expand began 11 years ago due to its growing congregation and limited space.
Portions of the previous building were refurbished and a newly constructed worship center seats 950 people. The worship center is a state-of-the-art room with a 40-foot wide video screen and new Bose sound system. The new 13,000-square-foot kids’ wing has spacious, age-specific classrooms and kid-themed play areas.
Denied its first application with the Fairfield Wetlands Commission, Black Rock finally obtained all the required permits in 2012. The church had to relocate services, activities and offices for the 20 months of construction.
Over 300 people have started to regularly attend the church’s three morning services in the new facility.
