FAIRFIELD, Conn. Belle Wein of Fairfield died May 27 at the Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield, surrounded by family. She was 97.
She was born to Samuel and Rebecca Bernstein Nadler on Nov. 7, 1914. Wein worked in the retail jewelry industry for most of her working life. After her first husband's death, Wein worked in the family business, Capital Loan and Hardware Co. in Bridgeport, for many years. She later worked for Spector's Jewelers in Bridgeport and Trumbull and at Lenox Jewelers in Fairfield until her retirement.
Wein was a founding member of Congregation Beth El and a life member of B'nai B'rith. She volunteered at the Jewish Home for the Elderly for over 25 years. Wein was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her husband, William "Bill" Wein; two sons, Stanley (Beverly) Parker, of Brookfield, Conn., and Joel Martin Parker, of Guilford, Conn.; a daughter, Linda (Jonathan) Kaplan, of South Windsor, Conn.; a sister, Anne Kirban; a brother-in-law; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Wein was predeceased by her first husband, Samuel, in 1954; two sisters, Lillian Weintraub and Jeanne Barbin; a brother, Charles Nadler; as well as two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.
A private burial will be held Tuesday. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. at the Jewish Home for the Elderly, with Rabbi Stephen Shulman officiating. Shiva will be observed Wednesday evening at the home of Linda and Jonathan Kaplan in South Windsor, with minyan at 7 p.m.
