FAIRFIELD, Conn. Alfred Berkowitz, 79, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, April 11, at St. Vincent's Medical Center.
Berkowitz was born in New York, N.Y. He was a longtime member of Congregation B'nai Torah in Trumbull and taught at Harding High School in Bridgeport for over 36 years.
He had many passions in his life, including, UConn sports, the New York Yankees, pride in his Jewish heritage and, most of all, his family.
Berkowitz was predeceased by his wife, Leah Berkowitz, in 2007; a sister, Shirley Krentman, and a brother, Walter Berkowitz. He is survived by a daughter, Caroline (Adam) Snitkoff, of Fairfield; two sons, Max (Jennifer) Berkowitz of Woodbridge, and Judd Berkowitz, of Bridgeport; a sister, Jackie (Dave) Greengarten, of Maryland, and three granddaughters.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday at Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home in Fairfield. Burial will follow at B'nai Torah Cemetery in Fairfield. Shiva will be announced at the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation B'nai Torah of Trumbull.
