FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Got a hankerin’ for a milkshake or a patty melt?
Head on over to Sacred Heart University, which will host a ribbon-cutting for the first on-campus diner in New England on Monday.
JP’s Diner — named for SHU President John J. Petillo — will soon be serving up ‘50s and ‘60s favorites for the student body and anyone else who’d like to stop by for a burger, a club sandwich or a creamy slice of cheesecake.
“Having a diner on campus is just another unique aspect of our university,” Petillo said. “This retro eatery will not only nourish our students with delicious, hearty meals, but it will provide them with fun and entertainment. It will also give them a chance to unwind and meet with friends before getting back to their studies and extracurricular activities.”
The diner seats about 110 people inside and 40 more outside.
It will offer a take-out menu and will stay open until 3 a.m. on weekends.
The university is still putting the finishing touches on JP’s, but once it is open it will feature jukeboxes and a big screen TV to showcase vintage black-and-white movies.
