Over 20 years ago, Clearview's owner, Rusty Sheppard, started bringing Harley, his German Shepherd, to the Bridgeport office on a daily basis. Friendly and great with customers, Harley quickly became a model employee at the family-owned business, beloved by co-workers and customers.
"Harley became part of the Clearview family right away," said Diane Sheppard of Clearview Inc. "We loved having Harley around and so did our customers." Clearview is now on its third generation of dogs. The newest addition is an 8-month-old corgi pup named Hazel.
The other current dogs at the pet-friendly business are Hailey, a 12-year-old Corgi and Dooli, an 8 1/2-year-old Beagle/Fox Hound mix. Having been Clearview "employees" since puppies, both of these dogs have become fixtures at the Fairfield Avenue business.
"Hailey and Dooli are every bit as friendly and well behaved as Harley was," said Sheppard. "Hazel is still learning the ropes and has a ways to go to earn her stripes, but she is quickly fitting in."
In addition to greeting customers, Hailey, a certified therapy dog, has volunteered with the Sheppards at area hospitals, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, adult day care facilities, schools and community events.
Studies have shown the presence of therapy dogs like Hailey can help lower blood pressure, improve cardiovascular health and even help decrease physical pain.
"Whether it's at the store or a place in the community that can use a dog's presence, these dogs love to be around people," said Sheppard.
Hailey, Dooli, & Hazel have become synonymous with Clearview and the company's effort to connect with their community.
