Frank Pepe's Clam Pizza Named Best In The Country; Colony Grill Ranks 27th

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The white clam pizza at Frank Pepe, arguably Connecticut's most famous pizzeria with local locations in Fairfield and Danbury, has been named the best pizza in the country in a survey conducted by The Daily Meal.

The publication listed what it considered the 101 best pizzas -- not pizzerias -- in the country.

Frank Pepe beat a whopping 30 New York pizzas on the list and its cross-town New Haven rival, Sally's Apizza -- although the publication admitted it thinks Sally's red pie is better than the one at Frank Pepe's.

Frank Pepe's white clam pizza is made with freshly shucked clams, grated Parmesan, olive oil, garlic, and oregano.

The sausage pizza with hot oil at Colony Grill, which has Fairfield County locations in Stamford and Fairfield, was ranked 27th in the nation.
