Fairfield Ushers In Season With Christmas Tree Festival At Burr Homestead

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Every year, the Burr Homestead in Fairfield is transformed into a celebration of the holiday season by a staff of dedicated volunteers as part of the fundraising Christmas Tree Festival, which was held throughout this past weekend.

Volunteers inside the historic Burr Homestead offer hot cider to visitors as they roam the hallways to view rooms lavishly decorated by local interior decorators and artists.

Trees, wreaths and decorative items were for sale, as well as live wreaths. There was also a holiday boutique, and the kids could visit Santa.

The beneficiary of this year's Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival is Norwalk Grassroots Tennis, based in Norwalk. All proceeds from the weekend events go directly to Norwalk Grassroots Tennis, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to improve the lives of children from low-income families through tennis, education, life skills and leadership programs.

“We are thrilled to work with an organization whose mission is to help inner-city youth through sport to build confidence, improve academic performance, teach leadership and eventually return from college as mentors and role models,” said Colleen Murphy, president of the Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival.

“We hope to surpass the amount we raise each year and have chosen a beneficiary which will help our Festival reach a broader audience. We are also excited to welcome celebrity tennis pros Gigi Fernandez and Patrick McEnroe.”

Darien residents Tracy McEvoy and Amy Pomponi were co-chairing the 2015 Fairfield Christmas Tree Festival along with Fairfield resident Moira Sargent Rachel.
