The Town of Fairfield and the Clean Energy Task Force are hosting the second annual Electric Vehicle Showcase.
The showcase, to be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fairprene commuter parking lot at 140 Mill Plain Road, will bring together local car dealers, electric car club members, many local EV owners and the public to view the newest EV models and learn about the current state of the technology.
The free event coincides with National Drive Electric Week, Sept. 10-18, which features events across the country to heighten awareness of the benefits and broad availability of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, motorcycles and bikes.
“Electric vehicles are drawing more and more interest in our community, proven by the strong response and enthusiasm generated by last year’s inaugural showcase,” said First Selectman Mike Tetreau. “The EV Showcase event strongly demonstrates our town’s commitment to promoting awareness of the environmental and cost benefits of EVs and supporting greater use of the vehicles.”
The EV Showcase 2015 event was a resounding success, with 10 dealers plus more than a dozen private owners displaying vehicles for nearly 200 attendees from Fairfield and beyond. Local dealers included Porsche of Fairfield, BMW of Bridgeport, Park City Ford, Mercedes-Benz of Fairfield, Miller-Nissan, Prestige VW of Stamford and Zane’s Bicycle Shop.
"Last year, the electric bikes on display were a huge hit and got lots of test rides, and this year, once again, we'll have e-bikes,” says Scott Thompson, chairman of Fairfield’s Clean Energy Task Force. “We’re also expecting an even larger turnout of electric cars on Sept. 10, including new models such as the Audi A3, BMW X5, and the incredible Tesla Model X.”
