Harrison is scheduled to tell the stories at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 26 in the dining hall of the Fairfield Senior Center at 100 Mona Terrace. Harrison began painting fire hydrants back in 1976 to celebrate the country’s bicentennial.
"This year, the First Selectman’s Office asked whether she would be interested in painting the town in preparation for the 375th Anniversary Celebration in 2014," a press release said. "Finding the actual task too difficult, Ms. Harrison enlisted help this summer from the Wakeman Boys & Girls Club and the local Boy and Girl Scout troops.
"She created pictures of the seven steps required to follow for the painting, which must be done one coat at a time, and invited the youth to her home to study the process. Then the volunteers went out and painted many fire hydrants, some of which can be seen and admired along the Old Post Road."
The talk is free of charge, but residents are asked to make a reservation by calling Program Coordinator Margaret Andrews at 203-254-5102.
