The event celebrates the running of the 141st Kentucky Derby with big hats, fast horses, mint juleps and traditional southern fare. All proceeds help support the Pequot Library’s programs and community services. The event starts on the Great Lawn then convenes in the auditorium to watch the race.
Rare books from Pequot’s Special Collections focused on Kentucky will be on view. Kentucky Derby history shows 141 years ago, the race leading up to what is now the Run for the Roses was a fundraiser for the purpose of raising money to build quality racing facilities. Today, Pequot Library continues that excitement with a fundraiser for the purpose of raising money to help bring literature, music, art, science and the humanities to the community.
Bring your own tailgate or enjoy the library’s. All tickets include open bar and Kentucky fare. Individual tickets are $75 and tailgate tickets are $350. Tailgate tickets include four individual tickets and a special 3 p.m. entrance.
