The Quartet features Smith on bass, John Ellis on saxophone, Nate Radley on guitar and Russell Meissner on drums. They perform regularly in New York City and their most recent recording, "Trust," received rave reviews.

The Sean Smith Quartet has played together for nearly 20 years. "Its member share a similar passion and vision for music and this kinship helps to define a distinctive group sound noted for its lyrical quality," a news release notes. "With Sean's songful and melodic compositions underscoring the Quartet, they create a warm acoustic sound in the jazz tradition, but they will subtly take the occasional odd journey beyond, too."

April is Jazz Appreciation Month. Created as an annual event to pay tribute to jazz, schools, organizations and others celebrate with events ranging from free concerts to educational programs. JAM was started by the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in 2002. The library will be hosting another jazz concert in April, "Gentle Jazz," on Sunday, April 17.

Registration is requested: do so here, or by calling 203-256-3160. The performance will begin at 2 p.m. in the library's Memorial Room at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Rd.

This musical program is made possible through the generosity of the Friends of the Fairfield Public Library. All programs at the Fairfield Public Library are free. For more information on this and other programs, visit the library's website, or follow it on Facebook or Twitter.
