Naftalin entered the musical scene in 1965 as the keyboardist with the popular and influential Paul Butterfield Blues Band. He is renowned among blues fans for his contributions to the band's sound. Since leaving that band and settling first in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1968 and then Connecticut in 2002, he's continued to work as a soloist, accompanist and bandleader.

Described as "a brilliant pianist who puts a touch of genius in his blues" by the San Francisco Chronicle, Naftalin has performed and recorded with some of the best-known names in the field, including John Lee Hooker, Michael Bloomfield and Etta James.

In addition to traditional book categories, shoppers can find Americana regional cookbooks, more than 1,000 records, CDs, DVDs and other media, comics from the 1970s through the 1990s and books about Connecticut and New England.

The sale is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mark Naftalin & Friends will perform from 1-2 p.m. both days. The snow day will be Monday, Feb. 15.

The money raised from book sales support the library's 750 annual cultural programs -- art exhibitions, town-wide community events, music concerts, author talks, summer reading programs for children, and book chats for adults -- that serve more than 100,000 participants a year.

The library is at 720 Pequot Ave., Southport. For more information, call 203-259-0346 Ext. 15, visit the library's website or follow it on Facebook or Twitter.
