The annual membership meeting and book talk will take place on Tuesday, May 19, beginning with “The Remarkable Wedding of Tom Thumb & Lavinia Warren” from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by election of new board members and officers from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The book talk is free for Fairfield Museum members, with a $5 suggested donation for non-members, and is being held in conjunction with the exhibition “Fashion and Fantasy: 250 Years of Wedding Dresses.”
Nicholas Rinaldi, a Fairfield University professor emeritus, will discuss his book, “The Remarkable Courtship of General Tom Thumb,” a fictional yet fascinating behind-the-scenes look at life during the Civil War and a moving tale of one misfit’s odyssey to find his place in the world. A short presentation of the Fairfield Museum’s annual meeting will precede the lecture, followed by a reception with cake and champagne.
On Monday, May 25, from noon to 3 p.m., the eighth Annual Memorial Day Community Picnic will take place. The public is invited to this free event. Bring family and friends, blankets and picnic baskets to the Fairfield Museum after the Memorial Day town parade. The museum will be open free of charge and will have three exhibitions on view.
Swing along to The Survivors Swing Band, playing popular American standards from the 1920s and 1930s. Step and sway to the music with Dance with Susan leading the way. Enjoy an afternoon of food, music, games for children and adults, crafts, and fun for everyone.
The Fairfield Museum is a member of Blue Star Museums, offering free admission to museums for all active duty, National Guard and Reserve military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
