Learn how Impressionism arrived in America through the influence of art dealers, the education of American artists in Europe and the formation of art colonies.
The lives of five American Impressionists will be highlighted – William Merritt Chase, Childe Hassam, John Twachtman, J. Alden Weir and Theodore Robinson.
Their stories will be told at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Rotary Room of the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. Registration is requested.
Presenters Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman are the founders of ArtScapades. They began teaching art appreciation together in the New Canaan Public Schools in 1998. By popular demand, they began sharing their classes with adults who also wanted to further their knowledge of art. They have presented at libraries and museums in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts and Florida.
