Fairfield Library Sets Up For A Week Of Rhymes With 'Poem In Your Pocket'

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- April is National Poetry Month and April 21 is "Poem in Your Pocket Day." But for the Fairfield Public Library, one day just isn't enough, so they will be using a whole week to celebrate poems.

Fairfield Library will celebrate 'Poem in Your Pocket Week' beginning Thursday, April 21 by tucking poems in denim pockets throughout the library.

Started in New York City in 2002 and taken national by the American Academy of Poets in 2008, "Poem in Your Pocket Day" celebrates poetry by encouraging people to tuck a poem in their pocket to share with others wherever they go that day.

At the Fairfield Library, denim pockets filled with poems will appear at the Main and Fairfield Woods Branch Libraries starting on "Poem in Your Pocket Day," on Thursday, April 21, and will be kept full through Thursday, April 28.

The pockets will be hanging at the Circulation, Information and Children’s desks and at other spots in the buildings. Take one (or more!) from the pockets to share with family, friends, work mates, the mailman, etc.

This is the second year the Fairfield Public Library has participated. All programs at the Fairfield Public Library are free. For more information about this and other programs, visit: www.fairfieldpubliclibrary.org or call 203-256-3160.
