To celebrate Earth Day, and help homeowners become more environmentally conscious, LeafFilter North Inc. compiled a list of standout Earth Day events for 2016.

Fairfield’s April 30 Earth Day was chosen for its "unique offerings, like educational lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities," said the article.

Community commitment to sustainability was another factor and the company called Fairfield a "leader in the sustainability category." The reasons include the town's long history of eco-friendly outreach programs and dedication to raising awareness of environmental issues within the community.

Fairfield is the only Connecticut town/city on the list while events in Dallas, Columbus, Ohio, and Jacksonville, Fla. are on it.

Leaffilter has 28 offices nationwide that serves 33 states.

LeafFilter Connecticut is located in Berlin.
