Burr DAR Chapter Teams Up With Fairfield Library for Read-a-thon

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Get ready to get reading when members of the local Eunice Dennie Burr Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution team up with the Fairfield Library to host a 12-hour Read-A-Thon Sunday.

The DAR and Fairfield Library Read-A-Thon will be held at the Old Fairfield Academy on Sunday from 8 a.m.to 8:30 p.m.

Running from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Old Fairfield Academy on 635 Old Post Road, Fairfield, will include in addition to a traditional read-a-thon, such activities as two Victorian Teas (for all ages); story hours all day; period crafts; a veterans’ roundtable discussion; colonial games; a patriotic sing along with the Mendelssingers, and much more.

The DAR, which is comprised of the descendants of the Patriots who won American independence, was founded on October 11, 1890, as a service organization to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. 

 “Our chapter, which was organized in 1894, carries out the important mission of the National Society here on the local level,” said Chapter Regent Linda S. Paslov. “We’re excited to demonstrate the vibrancy and contributions of today’s DAR by serving our local community as Daughters have been doing throughout the nation for 125 years.”
