Wiman is on the faculty of Yale Divinity School teaching literature and religion having served 10 years as editor of the prestigious Poetry magazine. He has written several books, including "My Bright Abyss," which critics have labeled as a “masterpiece” and “a revelation.”
He was raised in a conservative Christian home and community in rural west Texas, but following his college days had seen his faith go dormant as his career flourished. Wiman was later diagnosed with a rare and incurable blood cancer and has endured marrow transplants and intensive treatment while reexamining his faith and mortality. "My Bright Abyss" is a meditation on Christian faith and is a deeply thoughtful, moving and helpful look at the ultimate questions of life, death, doubt and faith which will be shared during our services.
A reception will follow the 10:30 am service to welcome and thank Wiman.
