Moves By GE, Other Firms Leave Suburban Office Parks Empty

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- As a growing number of companies relocate from suburban headquarters to urban areas, like General Electric leaving Fairfield for Massachusetts, urban centers' gains may be a loss for the unoccupied suburban campuses they leave behind, according to the Wall Street Journal.

GE announced last month that it would be moving its headquarters to Boston beginning later this year. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said that the move was inspired by the company's desire to be in proximity to a more urban environment. The move leaves an 85-acre campus in Fairfield empty, which the company plans to sell.
