Officials from Home Depot said transactions that took place in physical retail locations since April 2014 are being investigated, but said online purchases appear to be safe, Forbes reported.
Home Depot is offering free identity protection services and credit monitoring to all customers who may have been affected by the breach, Forbes said.
Payment data breaches can prove to be costly. A similar breach in Target stores last year cost the company more than $100 million, according to Forbes.
