The Fairfield clinic is the second AFC clinic opened by Dr. Steven Heffer. A longtime emergency room physician and Fairfield resident, Heffer also operates the AFC Doctors Express Urgent Care of Bridgeport, which opened in March 2014.

Heffer said he decided to open the Fairfield center in response to friends and neighbors citing an unmet need for a high quality urgent care clinic with convenient hours.

The new health center began serving patients with non-life threatening emergencies and routine health needs on Oct. 16. Urgent care clinics offer an alternative to emergency room visits.

AFC Fairfield’s new center offers many services on-site, such as X-rays, lab tests, pre-employment physicals, drug screening, sports and school physicals, vaccinations and travel medicine.

The urgent care clinic accepts most insurance plans and self-payment.

Heffer is a board-certified emergency medicine physician with over 20 years of experience in emergency medical care. He worked for more than a decade in the Greenwich Hospital's emergency room.

He completed his internship and residency at New York University Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital Trauma Center after receiving his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

The new clinic is at 1910 Black Rock Turnpike. For details, visit the clinic's website.
