Dash 'N Drizzle Adds Spice To Fairfield Food-Buying Lineup

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Moving from the toy industry into artisan olive oils and vinegars might be an unusual career move, but Jeff Love and Jeff Stein both thought it was a move into a niche market that could work.

Love and Stein opened their store Dash 'N Drizzle two months ago at the Post Road and Unquowa Road. It has been well received by the community, they said.

"Momentum has been building. Summer is a little tricky around here," said Stein. But he said that with the fall and holiday seasons coming up, they expect business to boom.

The duo spent the last 20 months researching and understanding the olive oil market before looking for a place to set up shop. Fairfield, they said, seemed like a great  place to start because of all the different kinds of restaurants in the area.

"They like the experience of coming in and trying the products before buying them," said Love, who is from Fairfield. "Olive oil amongst foodies is a trendy and popular item right now."

Both men are very aware of trends. Stein said he previously followed which toys would be the next big thing. The transition from toys to food wasn't as difficult as it might have been, once they knew the products, he said.

The oils and vinegars come mainly from Europe and California, with some of the infused oils made in Connecticut, Stein said. They don't make any of the infusions in house but purchase them, he said.

The tasting room for the oils and vinegars offers customers a unique atmosphere, where they can try different blends and infusions to fit their tastes or foods, both Stein and Love said.

The store is not just oils and vinegars. It also stocks locally made soaps, body lotions, honey, salts, rubs and jams. And within the next month, the owners say they will be expanding and opening a spice shop.
