“We’re signing new members up almost every day since the Grand Opening,” co-owner Gary Azarian said in a press release. “People like the ambiance here, especially compared to the area’s large gyms. It’s not overcrowded, over-stimulating or overdone.”
Co-owned by Azarian and Frank O’Driscoll, Anytime Fitness is a franchise of an international chain of 24-hour fitness centers. Founded in 2002, the chain now has more than 2,000 locations in more than a dozen countries.
Though not always staffed, the fitness center is always available to customers. Each gym member is able to access the center any time via a personalized swipe key. Security cameras and other features protect the gym and its surrounding parking lot even during the overnight hours, the owners say.
“It addresses the need for staying in shape while handling a very demanding schedule, especially one that changes often,” Fairfield First Selectman Michael Tetreau said of the gym’s 24-hour policy at a ribbon cutting earlier this month. “Being flexible on when to get flexible just seems like a great fit for Fairfield.”
Inside the gym offers a range of cardio and strength training equipment and private showers and changing rooms. Clients can also sign up for many pre-scheduled classes, such as yoga and Zumba, as well as private classes and personal training sessions.
Anytime Fitness is offering free seven-day passes to people who are interested in trying out the gym. “Once people use our facility for a week, they fall in love with it,” Azarian said.
Anytime Fitness is located at 1838 Black Rock Turnpike, Fairfield. For more information, call 203-212-3400 or visit the gym’s website.
