It's just enough snow to cause slippery conditions on roads and highways across the region. Since 10 a.m., Connecticut State Police said it had responded to over 115 traffic accidents and provided assistance to 22 motorists.
The afternoon commute is expected to be snowy and slow-going on highways and surface streets with a slippery coating already down. The Connecticut Department of Transportation reported accidents and spinouts across the state.
It was also just enough snow to prompt early dismissals at every public school in Fairfield County. After-school activities and a number of evening activities were also canceled, and a number of libraries and town halls were closing early as well due to the snow. Call ahead before you head out!
Motorists were urged to slow down and increase following distances between vehicles, state police said.
A total of 2 to 4 inches of snow was expected to fall, with an inch already officially recorded in Danbury and New Canaan by 1 p.m. Tuesday and three-quarters of an inch in Darien and at Sikorsky Airport.
The temperature will remain in the upper 20s for the rest of the day, with snow expected into the early evening before trailing off by midnight.
Any snow that falls should melt quickly, though: Wednesday will be partly sunny, with a high near 42 degrees but with wind chills of 25 to 35.
