Severe Thunderstorms Heading For Fairfield County Monday Evening

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Fairfield County at 6:45 p.m. Monday, the National Weather Service said. 

It is in effect until 7:45 p.m. Doppler Radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds of more than 60 mph was moving from West Point, N.Y., toward Connecticut. The area under the warning includes Danbury, Bethel and Ridgefield as well as other parts of northern Fairfield County. 

The storm was moving south through Fairfield County and heading toward the coastline. 

This is a dangerous storm, the weather service said. If you are in its path, prepare immediately for damaging winds, destructive hail and deadly cloud to ground lightning. 

People who are outside are advised to move indoors. People who are inside are advised to move away from windows. 

Very heavy rainfall can cause ponding of water on roadways and minor flooding in poor drainage areas.
