Update: The Severe Thunderstorm Warning has expired, but it is still drizzling throughout much of the greater Danbury area on Friday evening.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Much of northern and central Fairfield County are under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning on Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service. 

The warning is until 6:45 p.m. 

A severe thunderstorm was moving from Putnam County at 25 mph as of 6 p.m. 

It could bring 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail.

Hail could cause damage to vehicles, and strong winds could damage roofs, siding, and trees.

This severe thunderstorm will be near New Fairfield and Ridgefield by about 6:35 p.m.; Danbury and Brookfield by about 6:40 p.m.; and Newtown and Bethel by about 645 p.m.

Residents are urged to move indoors on the lowest floor of a building.
